Every year October is marked as a month of activities, events and discussions around urban sustainability. Urban October begins with World Habitat Day on Monday 7 October 2019 and will end with World Day for the Right to the City on Friday 31 
October 2019. HIC together with its members, friends and allies will showcase the strength of our initiatives and joint actions during October in order to spread our coalition fight for the recognition, defense and full realization of everyone’s right to live in a safe and dignified place.
Aware and alarmed that defenders of Habitat Rights around the world are being threatened, attacked and even murdered in alarming and disturbing numbers (see figures here), we think it is time to act. That is why this Urban October we have launched a campaign to promote and protect human rights defenders and to call on governments to safeguard and stop the attacks and stigmatization of those who fight for human rights.
