Electoral Committee introduces the procedure and schedule for the Election of MENA Representative at the HIC Board 2024-2028

The term of HIC MENA Representative, M. Khalid Khawaldeh (Dana and Qadisiyah Local Community Cooperative) from Jordan, is now coming to its end. It is time, therefore, to elect your Representative at the HIC Board for the next four-year term that will run from December 2024 through November 2028.

We are pleased to announce the set up of the Electoral Committee that will guide this process:
– Mrs. Maha Ahmed (email), Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms, Egypt (Short Biography in English and in Arabic)

– Mrs. Bira El-Mami (email), Unión Nacional de Mujeres Saharauis, Western Sahara (Short Biography in English and Arabic)
– Mr. Walter Odong (email), Women Relief Aid, South Sudan (Short Biography in English and Arabic)
– Mr. Mohsen Aburamadan (email), Dr. Haider Abdel Shafi Center for Culture and Development, Palestine (Short Biography in English and Arabic)

The overall process is supported by Mr. Ahmed Mansour (Coordinator – HIC-MENA) and Marie (Membership Coordinator – HIC-GS) and should conclude with the election of one Representative and one Alternate at the Board for a 4 years term.

The EC carrying out the election process is now reviewing the Procedure and Schedule for the elections, following the HIC Constitution and the HIC Bylaws.

HIC Members Listing

Members that are in good standing are invited to nominate their candidate and to vote.

Click here to check if your organization is stated in the provisional Listing of MENA Members in good standing.

If your name is not listed, please contact urgently Ahmed at HIC-MENA Office at amansour@hic-mena.org or marie at HIC-GS at marie@hic-net.org.

The final roster of voters will be available through the HIC-MENA and HIC-GS Websites and on the social media and also sent to the MENA Mailing List before the voting period starts.

Note: Each Member in good standing has the right to one (1) vote and only Members in good standing can nominate and be nominated for this election.

 

Nomination of Candidates

Call for nominations will be posted on HIC-MENA and HIC-GS Websites and on the social media and also sent to the Mailing List.

The person nominating his/her candidate must be in good standing (stated in the Listing of MENA Members in good standing).

Eligible candidates must be also stated in the List of HIC Members in good standing.

Each Member in good standing will write an email to the 3 Electoral Committee Members stating the name of the nominee and his/her organization.

 

Candidates’ profile and Eligibility

HIC Members representatives (women and men) working actively in the MENA region engaged with housing, land rights and human settlements; interested to combine local, national and regional contexts with the global approach and to represent other HIC MENA Members with a global perspective at the international level.

Eligible candidates are not elected as representatives of their organizations, but as persons willing and able to carry out the required representative responsibilities of the MENA region.

The HIC Board Representative and the alternate Member must have gender/geographical diversity (You must elect a man and a woman from different countries)

 

Responsibilities and tasks of Board Members

Eligible candidates should understand, write and speak either English or French.

Validation of candidate’s nomination

Note: Self nominations will not be validated.

Candidates should be nominated by at least three HIC MENA Members in good standing in order to be validated.

Each Candidate must send a note to the EC with his/her nomination’s acceptance, a bio and a campaign brief.

His/her organization must send to the EC a note supporting the candidacy and include a brief statement indicating name and general activities.

All the documents must be received by the 3 EC Members and the team supporting the election process, in order to be reviewed and translated.

Nomination must be validated by the EC on documents reception, the EC Coordinator will acknowledge receipt of the nomination).

Validated nominations with documents will be published on HIC-MENA and HIC-GS Websites and on the social media and also sent to the Mailing List.

 

Campaign of Candidates

The validated Candidates will campaign by email, or phone calls or whatsapp.

 

Call to Vote: Call to vote will be posted on HIC-MENA and HIC-GS Websites and on the social media and also sent to the Mailing.

 

Votes

If you are organizational Members in good standing in the MENA region listed on the Roster of Voters, you should write an email during the voting period to the Electoral Committee mailbox with a copy to the 4 Electoral Committee Members stating the name of a validated candidate and his/her organization.

Ballot must be issued in English or French or Arabic and received by EC before the closing date.

 

Reception, counting, register and verification of votes by the EC. The 4 Members of the Electoral Committee will count, record and verify all the ballots

 

Results of Election will be communicated and published on HIC-MENA and HIC-GS Websites and on the social media and also sent to the Mailing List after the check list of all the ballots.

*Note: Members of EC can propose an extension of deadline for each step, as they deem convenient.
