In Memory of Mónica Mendoza

HIC

We mourn with profound sadness the passing of Mónica Mendoza, a tireless activist for fair access to housing, social economy, and women’s rights, and co-founder of the Mutual Primavera in José C. Paz, Argentina.

Mónica tragically lost her life in a bus accident while traveling with fellow comrades to Mar del Plata to participate in the Encuentro de Hábitat Popular, organized by the Province of Buenos Aires.

Her life was deeply dedicated to community organizing and creating collective responses to territorial inequalities. Through the Mutual Primavera, she promoted educational projects, housing access, community services, and spaces that strengthened the daily lives of families in the neighborhood. Her work was always guided by the values of solidarity, mutual aid, and the defense of the rights of the most vulnerable communities.

Mónica shared a close collaborative relationship with Madre Tierra, working to improve the quality of life for families in the San Agustín neighborhood—advancing land title regularization, promoting urban improvements, and continuously strengthening community organization.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and all comrades mourning her loss. Her legacy of solidarity and justice will continue to inspire us.
