The High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) is the United Nations’ central platform for the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Forum brings together governments, local authorities, civil society, UN agencies and other stakeholders to assess progress, exchange experiences and strengthen commitments towards sustainable development. The 2026 HLPF is taking place on 7-15 July in New York.
This year’s High-level Political Forum (HLPF) is of particular importance to Habitat International Coalition (HIC), as SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) are among the Goals under in-depth review. HIC will participate in the Forum to advocate for a human rights-based, community-led and habitat-centred approach to sustainable development. Building on decades of work advancing the Right to Adequate Housing, Land and Habitat, HIC and its members will bring grassroots perspectives and policy recommendations to the global dialogue, highlighting the essential role of communities, social movements and local action in achieving the 2030 Agenda and ensuring that no one is left behind.
