he Habitat International Coalition (HIC) participated in Nyéléni 2025, a landmark global convergence that brought together a powerful constellation of social movements and communities committed to building just, democratic, and sustainable futures.
The Forum gathered Indigenous Peoples, peasant farmers, fishers, pastoralists, agricultural workers, artisans, feminists, migrants, wage workers, the urban poor, social and solidarity economy actors, consumers, health workers, artists, and researchers—all united around a shared vision:
- strengthening people’s economies and democracy,
- promoting peace and international solidarity,
- advancing food sovereignty and agroecology,
- defending land and territories,
- ensuring health and care for all, and
- achieving climate justice and energy sovereignty.
As a global network dedicated to human rights related to habitat, HIC emphasized the deep interconnections between land, housing, food systems, and territorial rights, contributing to discussions and collective reflections with members and allied organizations.
Alongside many partners, the Global Alliance for the Future of Food, represented by Anna Lappé, took part in sessions focused on food sovereignty, climate justice, equity, and systemic change. The Alliance will also host a post-Nyéléni virtual briefing, with details to be announced soon.
Nyéléni 2025 was a key moment to strengthen alliances across rural and urban movements and to reaffirm HIC’s commitment to community-led alternatives and transformative public policies.
HIC remains committed to advancing the struggles for land, housing, food, and territory as essential and interconnected human rights, and to building collective power for systemic change.
