April 25–26: Global Housing Action Days

Across the world, cities will rise to reclaim homes, resist evictions, and demand housing justice. In response to the deepening global housing crisis, Habitat International Coalition (HIC) and its members join the call to action — standing firm in the defense of housing, land, and habitat rights as human rights.

What are the Global HousingAction Days?

The Global Housing Action Days is a series of coordinated actions such as occupations, protests, and rallies across our international networks, demanding an end to corporate greed and government complicity in the housing crisis. From April 25-26, communities will rise up to reclaim homes, resist evictions, and/or fight for housing as a human right.

We are unhoused people fighting for dignified housing, communities taking back land stolen by speculation, tenants refusing evictions, workers struggling for secured spaces. We refuse to accept a system that treats our homes and living spaces as assets instead of human rights and basic human necessities.

On April 25-26, we rise up together!

“A Global Fight, A United Movement – Rooted in Care, United in Struggle.- social movements converge on habitat-related human rights and feminist approaches

This year, the Action Days coincide with a significant milestone: From 23–25 April 2025, Durban, South Africa hosts the second in-person Global Convergence of Social and Feminist Movements for Human Rights Related to Habitat, co-organized by HIC and Abahlali baseMjondolo, South Africa’s largest shack dweller movement.

This powerful international gathering brings together grassroots, feminist, and social movements from across regions to:

  • Exchange experiences of struggle and resistance;
  • Define shared advocacy priorities;
  • Build a collective agenda rooted in care, justice, and solidarity.

As movements across the globe mobilize for housing justice on April 25–26, we echo the call from Durban:

“A Global Fight, A United Movement – Rooted in Care, United in Struggle.”

Together, we reject the commodification of housing and land. We oppose policies that exclude, displace, and criminalize the most vulnerable. We reaffirm our commitment to habitat-related human rights, feminist approaches, and the power of collective action.

What’s Next?
