Gaza is Not for Sale: Palestinian Movements Responds to Displacement Plans

HIC

According to the Palestinian Youth Movement, the Palestinian people have made it clear that they will not abandon their land, nor will any financial or material incentives persuade them to do so.

On February 4th, U.S. President Donald Trump held a press conference alongside Benjamin Netanyahu, where they announced a plan that, according to the Palestinian Youth Movement, amounts to the forced displacement of Gaza’s 2 million Palestinian inhabitants to Jordan and Egypt. This move, described by the movement as an escalation of ongoing violence against Palestinians, reflects the ongoing struggle for sovereignty in the region.

The Palestinian Community warns that Trump’s stance since taking office indicates a likely greenlight for further Zionist annexation of the West Bank. The Palestinian Youth Movement also highlight the role of U.S. imperialism in facilitating these actions, including the uninterrupted flow of weapons to Israel—over $30 billion in arms deals—alongside diplomatic cover that has shielded Israel from accountability on the global stage.

Additionally, Egypt and Jordan, the two countries Trump named as possible destinations for displaced Gazans, have formally opposed any participation in such a plan, with a joint statement rejecting any plans to move Palestinians out of their territories in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

The Palestinian Youth Movement reaffirms that Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people alone. The movement emphasizes that, regardless of external pressures, Palestinians will continue to resist and determine their own future.

Displaced Palestinians Begin Return to Northern Gaza Amid Ceasefire Agreement

After 15 months of genocidal war, a fragile ceasefire has been announced in Gaza, bringing a glimmer of hope to over two million Palestinians who have endured unimaginable resistance. Since the beginning of the conflict, more than 160,000 lives have been lost, and critical infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, and water stations has been systematically destroyed. The situation has left Gaza’s population struggling to survive under the weight of a US-backed siege and bombardment.

“The UN estimates the damaged buildings include more than 90% of the housing units in Gaza, with 160,000 destroyed and a further 276,000 severely or partially damaged” .

This ceasefire follows 467 days of relentless resistance from the Palestinian people. Their resilience has forced the Israeli regime to abandon its ambitions for the region, marking a pivotal moment in the ongoing fight for liberation. The people of Gaza, who have faced unimaginable suffering, now cautiously begin their return to northern Gaza amidst widespread destruction.

The Path to Liberation and Justice

The resilience and resistance of the Palestinian people have brought global attention to their struggle. As part of this movement, it’s important to honour the Palestinian community who continue to stand for justice and freedom. The recent release of Palestinian prisoners underscores the importance of these efforts and the collective will to resist oppression.

However, challenges remain. Israel continues to block the return of more than 600,000 Palestinians to northern Gaza, and the scars of this prolonged war are evident everywhere. The region has been devastated by targeted attacks that have displaced over 90% of Gaza’s population, leaving homes and lives in ruins.

Trump’s Controversial Proposal and International Backlash

Trump’s plan for Gaza’s population has reignited debates on Israel’s long history of population displacement, dating back to the 1948 Nakba, when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were forced from their homes. Human rights advocates argue that instead of proposing further displacement, efforts should focus on fulfilling Palestinians’ right to return to their homes as recognized by international law.

Looking Forward: A Call to Action for Justice and Liberation

The recent ceasefire in Gaza marks a critical turning point, but the journey toward justice, dignity, and full liberation for the Palestinian people remains far from over. Their unwavering resistance against systemic oppression and displacement continues to inspire a growing wave of global solidarity.

As an international coalition of civil society organizations, we emphasize the transformative power of mobilization and solidarity—particularly when governments have failed to uphold their obligations.

We call on the international community to:

We echo the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Adequate Housing in condemning “domicide”—the deliberate destruction of homes and shelters—as a war crime and crime against humanity. Israel’s decades-long campaign of invasion, territorial acquisition through force, violent depopulation, and dispossession has systematically targeted the homes of Indigenous Palestinians, advancing a colonial project that violates the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people.

We also urge individuals around the world to take action:

As the rebuilding of Gaza begins and displaced families return to what remains of their homes, the international community stands at a crucial crossroads. The fight for Palestinian liberation is inseparable from the broader struggle for global human rights and justice.

We stand firmly with the Indigenous Palestinian people in their fight for self-determination, dignity, reparations, and justice. The time for solidarity is now—because their liberation is our shared human responsibility.
