Side event: Civil society and local government´s expectations for Habitat III


Outline

The
Side Event “Civil society and local government´s expectations for Habitat
III” will be a cross-sector dialogue of civil society (CS) and local
government (LG) networks with national authorities and UN agency
representatives.

The
objectives/moments of this Side Event will be: (a) CS and LG`s expectations and
proposals for the New Habitat Agenda and Habitat III and the legacy of Habitat
II. This will include the substantive CS and LG involvement and participation
in the Habitat III process; (b) Status of the national reports and
participation of CS and LG; Outcomes of the research “Habitat III National
Reporting Processes: Locating the Right to the City and the Role of Civil
Society”; status of the regional reports and participation of CS and LG;
(c) Global Platform for the Right to the City: outcomes of Sao Paulo Right to
the City international meeting and plan of action; Outcomes of the World Social
Forum 2015.

The
participants of this Side Event have long housing/urban policy and
problem-solving experience with our worldwide constituents. They have been
fundamental to the Habitat I and Habitat II processes, defining related
normative frameworks, informing public policies at all levels, as well as
analyzing, training, multi-actor awareness raising and mobilizing around
habitat-related human rights and the right to the city. This event ensures that
contribution’s continuity.
