The exchange will be co-hosted by Abahlali, a powerful movement of shack dwellers with over 150,000 members in South Africa, and HIC Board Representatives for social and feminist movements, and the HIC General Secretariat. It will build on existing momentum from previous exchanges within HIC, and aims to facilitate cross-regional solidarity and political reflection on feminist approaches and habitat, learning from Abahlali’s practices in South Africa and realities in other African contexts, and developing a shared declaration of priorities on social production of habitat to be launched at the World Social Forum in Benin, in 2026.
Participation: The exchange is aimed at members of diverse social and feminist movements from all regions, and allied individuals and support organisations.
