Please find attached a Request for Urgent Action and Solidarity dealing with Human Rights Defenders. We are distributing this report so that it is available for your use on Habitat Day (1 October 2007). We also urge you to distribute it as widely as possible as the situation of human rights defenders is increasingly more precarious. As the Urgent Action details, the work of human rights defenders is being threatened by various sources using a variety «legal» and illegal measures to silence them. While we all carry on our work in defending human rights, we can not forget that we too need to ensure that our security remains so that our work continues. On Monday, 1 October, 2007, we hope that you take a moment to send out this report and to pass on the message that human rights defenders also need support and protection.
