Nairobi. Side Event: The Right to the City as a key paradigm for the implementation of the New Urban Agenda

Background

The Global Platform for the Right to the City was a key
player from the international civil society during Habitat III, promoting the
idea that the Right to the City must be the backbone to all national and local
policies in the pursuit of, fair and socially and environmentally sustainable
towns and cities.

Relevance to the GC26 theme

The proposal intends to bring the attention about the necessity
of a comprehensive human-rights approach in order to achieve a sustainable
urban development. Rather than restricting development, this approach provides
opportunities to build up fair, safe and and sustainable human settlements
worldwide.

Objective(s)

Identification
of the New Urban Agenda key components from the perspective of the Right to the
City and discussion of the strategies to move toward its implementation.
