In the wake of Côte d’Ivoire’s hosting of the African Cup of Nations, the great mass of African football, the Ivorian authorities, in the person of Cissé Bacongo, the new Governor of the District of Abidjan and Mayor of the Commune of Koumassi, also in Abidjan, have been clearing people from their homes in the Yopougon neighbourhood, at a place called Gesco, since 21 February 2024.
According to the Abidjanet news website, houses and even schools were demolished without delay, provoking the anger of the people who find themselves on the street with pupils whose education is currently interrupted. Gesco covers an area of around 100 hectares, with an estimated population of 100,000.
The Boribana district is also being forcibly evicted, with more than 100 sites targeted in the coming days.

- We DEMAND that the Ivorian authorities stop the evictions!
- We SUGGEST that humane and sustainable solutions be found!
