The WSF will be celebrated from January 23th to January 31st. Considering the global pandemic situation, the 2021 edition will be virtual.

The proposal of the 2021 World Social Forum (WSF) is an assembly of several ideas and part of the experience of face-to-face forums, mixed with the potential of the virtual one. HIC Members, Friends and Allies are encourages to join the organizations and social movements from all over the world that will attend the WSF special edition because it will serve as a natural starting point for the celebration of the 20th anniversary of its creation, which took place in January 2001 in Porto Alegre, Brazil. The event program and the daily self-organized assemblies will be a great opportunity to strengthen trusted alliances to continue promoting social justice worldwide.

Considering the urgency caused by the challenges of the current global situation, it is now more necessary than ever to strengthen our convergence networks to articulate global and territorial campaigns and actions.

The World Social Forum is an open space for meeting to: intensify reflection, carry out a democratic debate of ideas, elaborate proposals, establish a free exchange of experiences and articulate effective actions by the entities and movements of civil society that are involved. oppose neoliberalism and the domination of the world by capital or any form of imperialism and, also, committed to the construction of a planetary society oriented towards a fruitful relationship between human beings and of these with the Earth.

The alternatives proposed in the World Social Forum are opposed to a globalization process, led by large multinational corporations and by the governments and institutions that serve their interests, with the complicity of national governments. These alternatives that emerged within the Forum aim to consolidate a solidarity globalization that, as a new stage in the history of the world, respects universal human rights, all citizens of all nations and the environment, supporting in democratic international systems and institutions that are at the service of social justice, equality and the sovereignty of the peoples.

The World Social Forum brings together and articulates entities and movements of civil society from all the countries of the world, but it does not pretend to be an instance of representation of world civil society.

HIC has participated in every WSF: Porto Alegre 2002 and 2003; Mumbai 2004; Porto Alegre 2005; Bamako, Caracas and Karachi 2006; Nairobi 2007; Belem 2009; and Dakar 2011. HIC also joined the WSF International Committee in 2003.
